On New Year’s Eve, you’ll probably do like most of us and count down the last 10 seconds of 2010. But where will you do it? It’s become a tradition for various publications to propose the top 10 New Year’s Eve destinations, so we’ve collected some of the best ones for you in one handy list.

For those who plan ahead and want a deal

Last week, Travelocity added up its hotel and airlines bookings for New Year’s Eve and released a list of the most popular destinations…

  1. Las Vegas
  2. New York City
  3. Cancun
  4. Orlando
  5. Chicago
  6. Los Angeles
  7. South Florida
  8. Honolulu
  9. New Orleans
  10. San Diego

“Though many people associate New Year’s Eve with the ball dropping in New York City’s Times Square, it turns out the Big Apple is not the most popular place to ring in a new year,” said Genevieve Shaw Brown, Travelocity’s senior editor. “Travelers who booked their New Year’s Eve trips as vacation packages are ahead of the curve. This money-saving tactic is definitely a trend in travel for the coming year.”

For those who party exotic and don’t care about price

International travel site Skyscanner polled its users and simply asked them what city in the world they’d love to visit for New Year’s. Once again, the Big Apple didn’t make the list – but Iceland did…

  1. Barcelona
  2. Edinburgh
  3. London
  4. Reykjavik
  5. Paris
  6. Amsterdam
  7. Berlin
  8. Venice
  9. Prague
  10. Rome

Says Skyscanner about the No. 1 choice: “The Spanish city is well known for its lively New Year celebrations and the ‘eating of the grapes’ tradition; when the clock strikes midnight, locals eat one grape per chime, each one symbolizing a month of good luck.”

For the single guy on the prowl

Where should the single man on the prowl go? The website AskMen.com suggests…

  6. Shibuya, Tokyo
  7. London Eye Fireworks Display, London
  8. Central World Or Sanam Luang, Bangkok
  9. Champs-Elysees, Paris
  10. Las Vegas Strip, Las Vegas

Why Rio? “Beautiful women, fireworks, a carnival atmosphere, an incredible setting on the most famous beach in the world, and you have all the ingredients you need to have the most incredible New Year’s experience of your life,” says the website.
