Residents in 10 states will skip out on paying sales tax on certain purchases this weekend. Residents in another three states will do the same later this month.
That’s because the back-to-school sales tax holiday season starts tomorrow, Aug. 5. So if you’re planning to buy clothing, shoes, school supplies, or office supplies soon, be sure to time your purchases with your state’s tax holiday. Even if you’re not a student or the parent of a student, the holiday still applies if you buy anything on your state’s exemption list.
Use the chart below to find out if or when your state will celebrate its tax holiday this year – sorry, Connecticutians, yours was canceled. Click on the link under “Details” for a detailed list of exactly which items are exempt from sales tax during your state’s holiday.
|Connecticut||Repealed for 2011||website|
|New Mexico||Aug. 5-7|
|North Carolina||Aug. 5-7|
|South Carolina||Aug. 5-7|
