1. Fields of watermelon burst in China farm fiasco

Chinese farmers are losing their cops to “watermelon land mines” – and it’s their own fault. “Farmers gave them overdoses of growth chemicals during wet weather,” FOX News reported. Now, “watermelons have been bursting by the score.”

2. NASA sting nets woman offering moon rock for $1.7M

A woman was arrested this week for selling to an undercover officer in a restaurant outside Los Angeles. But it wasn’t drugs or weapons. “A woman who tried to sell a rare hunk of moon rock for $1.7 million was detained when her prospective customer turned out to be an undercover NASA investigator,” Yahoo! reported.

3. Social networks distract at work

We needed a study to tell us this? “Nearly 60 percent of work interruptions now involve either using tools like email, social networks, text messaging and IM,” PC World reported. “45 percent of employees work only 15 minutes or less without getting interrupted.”

4. Car stolen in 1975 recovered on other U.S. coast

Talk about the wheels of justice spinning slowly: A set of classic wheels stolen in New Jersey in 1975 has turned up in California. “A Santa Maria, California, man bought the 1969 Chevy Camaro SS from a seller on eBay,” CBS News reported. The car will soon be reunited with its original owner. Meanwhile, “police are tracing the registration in hopes of finding the thief.”

5. Long lines form after gas price goof

Gas for $1.10 a gallon? It was indeed to good to be true, but not until the California station owner paid the price. “The owner says the too-good-to-be-true price was a computer glitch that cost him $21,000,” The Associated Press reported. “Long lines snaked from the pumps at the Valero station in Wilmington on Sunday. Police were even called to control traffic.”
