Money Talks Opens a Store!

By on

A few weeks ago I was sitting at my desk after a 14-hour day and completely uninvited, into my head popped a funny idea for a T-shirt. When my girlfriend got home from work, I asked her about it and she too thought it was funny. Should we actually make it? The next day I talked to a couple of my co-workers about the idea, and they both said probably not: The slogan I thought was funny they thought was over the top and might offend some readers.

Never one to listen to reason, and always one to have a little fun, I ignored their advice and put a mock-up of the shirt on our Facebook page to see what you guys thought of it. We got a few dozen comments, mostly favorable. So despite the continuing doubts from my staff, we had 100 screen-printed to see what would happen.

Here’s what happened. It was only after I picked up two giant boxes of shirts that it occurred to me: We have no place on our website to offer T-shirts. We needed an online store. But nobody opens a store with only one item in it, so in addition to programming a store Web page, we had to come up with more inventory.

Here’s what we did: Dan the tech man developed the new store page, and for beginning inventory we included the new T-shirt, two of my books, our new get-out-of-debt iPhone app, Life or Debt, and a few books from other authors that I thought were great reads.

So check out our new store, tell me what you think of the new T-shirt and other stuff, and if there’s anything else you’d like to see there. But most important: Be careful if you’re the type to sit around thinking of goofy things to write on T-shirts. Because next thing you know, you could be opening a store.

We welcome your opinions, but let’s keep it civil. Like many businesses, we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone.
