Today’s Deals: Cameras, Sunscreen, Free Admission

I subscribe to the promotional emails of hundreds of companies so you don’t have to. I sift through 1,000 deal-touting emails every week. Most are worthless. But some offer valuable coupons, promo codes, sales, and freebies – which I collect and organize here and on our deals page.

Note: Expiration dates are in brackets.

Freebie

Free admission to public gardens on National Public Gardens Day, which is Friday [5/11 only]. At my favorite public garden (Miami’s Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden), admission is $25, so this could save you a lot.

Visit Better Homes and Gardens’ website for a free admission voucher (just don’t give them any more info than they ask for and uncheck the free-newsletter boxes if you don’t want their spam). Also check the website of your local public gardens (zoom in on this map to find one) to see if the voucher is necessary: Fairchild’s website, for example, says anyone who simply shows up gets in free.

Home goods

  • Ice cream maker: 67 percent off Cuisinart’s 2-gallon ice cream maker at Amazon.com [expiration unknown]. Instead of $185, it’s $60.
  • Bon-Ton (department store): $15 off a $40-plus purchase in stores (print first) [5/9].

Office and school supplies

  • Office Depot: $20 off a $100-plus purchase in stores (print first) and online (use code 10705746) [5/14]. To maximize your savings, use the coupon to buy sale-priced items.
  • Staples: Basic office supplies are $1 or $2 during the Dollar Days sale in stores [5/12]. In my area (South Florida), the sale includes notepads, pens, colored pencils, Post-Its, binder clips, and more. Check your local ad for your area’s details.

Personal care

  • Sunscreen (Banana Boat): Buy-one-get-one-free at Walgreens online [5/12]. Shipping is free if you spend $25. This is a great deal on a name brand if you haven’t stocked up for the summer.
  • Anti-aging: $3 off a L’Oreal product at Target stores (print first) [expiration unknown].
  • Lip shimmer (Burt’s Bees): $1.50 off at Walmart stores (print first – click on the pink “Get a $1.50 Coupon” button) [expiration unknown].
  • Generics: All house-brand products are 50 percent off at CVS online (use code 50CVSBRAND) [expiration unknown]. These products include just about everything you could imagine a drugstore would carry. Shipping is free if you spend $49-plus.

Technology

  • Micro flash drive: Kingston’s 16GB DataTraveler micro flash USB drive is $13 at Buy.com [expiration unknown]. That even beats Amazon.com’s current price – and shipping is free! This is supposedly one of the smallest flash drives in the world right now and is considered ideal for laptops and other devices with a USB port.
  • Nikon Coolpix camera bundle: 42 percent off at CompUSA online [5/9]. Instead of $219, it’s $128 – and shipping is free. The bundle includes a 16MP camera, a 4GB memory card, and a carrying case. The camera and case are purple, so this would make a perfect gift for mom or any other lady in your life.

Clothing, shoes, and accessories

  • Bon-Ton (department store): $15 off a $40-plus purchase in stores (print first) [5/9].
  • Bon-Ton (department store): Additional 20 percent off sale-priced clothing and fine jewelry in stores (print first) and online (use code MAY2DAYSL12) [5/9].

Comments & discussion

We welcome your opinions, but let’s keep it civil. Like many businesses, we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone. In our case, that means those who communicate by name-calling, racism, using words designed to hurt others or generally acting like an uninformed bully. Also, comments that include links to email addresses or commercial websites typically aren't posted. This isn't a place to advertise your business.
