Swapalease.com – a service that helps you do what it says – ran a survey on its website asking about dream cars. And while we recently wrote that More Americans Are Liking Hybrid Cars, leasers aren’t…
More than 200 Swapalease.com nationwide members participated in its “What’s Your Dream Car?” survey, which ran from July 15 through August 15. When given a choice in the survey of their favorite hybrid, the majority of respondents declined to choose. Even rising gas prices haven’t spurred additional interest in the Toyota Prius, as average daily searches for the hybrid on Swapalease.com have fallen 16 percent since the beginning of July.
Why no love for hybrids? It’s about appearance. Swapalease quotes Edmunds.com features editor Carroll Lachnit as saying, “Hybrids have tended to be utilitarian-looking vehicles, not sleek and fast-looking.”
Swapalease executive VP Scot Hall adds, “People want more ‘fast and furious’ in their vehicle of choice, not ‘lean and green.’”
Overall, respondents favored BMW’s and Mercedes. But here are the top picks in a few categories…
- Luxury SUVs: Land Rover Range Rover, Porsche Cayenne, Hummer H2
- Luxury sedans: Maserati Quattroporte, Mercedes S550 4Matic, BMW 750i xDrive
- Pickups: Ford F Series
- Convertibles: Audi R8 Spyder, Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet
- Sports cars: Ferrari 559 GTO, Chevy Camaro
While we’re dreaming, I’d probably pick from this list of The 10 Most Beautiful Cars Ever. But if you ever want to outright own your dream, you should probably stop browsing Swapalease and start reading Should You Buy or Lease Your Next Car?
As Money Talks News founder Stacy Johnson explains there, “The person who bought my car new essentially paid $60,000 for 75,000 miles. I’ve thus far paid about $8,000 for 50,000 miles.” He drives a Mercedes S430.
