Janitors and Waiters with Degrees
A college degree is becoming increasingly common in fields you might not expect. How many people with your job have a bachelor's?
CBS reports on overqualified employees:
Fourteen percent of the nation’s waiters and waitresses — 323,223 altogether — possess bachelor’s degrees.
More than 83,000 bartenders (16.5 percent) have earned a bachelor’s degree, and so have 115,500 janitors (five percent).
Almost a third of flight attendants and a quarter of amusement park attendants also have degrees. There’s a much longer list of professions and degree-holders at the link.
According to the article, half the people with bachelor’s degrees don’t need it for their line of work. But many employers use a degree to screen applicants anyway.
