Gizmodo reports on the plans for “Sky City”…
It’s not a joke. According to the construction company, the skyscraper will be built in just 90 days at the unbelievable rate of five floors per day.
It’s hard to believe, but they claim the building has been designed by some of the engineers who previously worked at the Burj Khalifa. It is also the same firm that built a full 30-story hotel in 15 days—which yes, is still standing and in perfect working condition.
Of course, nearly all of the building will be prefabricated pieces that they slap together. So even if they pull it off – which would still be amazing to see – it’s a little misleading to say they “built it” that quickly.
The article claims it will cost less than $1,500 per square meter: one tenth of the cost per square meter paid for the Burj Khalifa, the current tallest building in the world. (Neither Gizmodo nor its source seem to give an area figure for Sky City, so it’s hard to compare total cost.)
More than 80 percent of the building is designed for residential use, and it’s supposed to be able to withstand intense earthquakes.
