Government Changing Used Car Rules
Consumer advocates didn't get what they wanted from the proposed update, but there's time for public comment.
The Plain Dealer reports…
“The [Federal Trade Commission] agency really wimped out,” said Rosemary Shahan of Consumers for Auto Reliability and Safety, or CARS. “They needed to overhaul the Buyers Guide and instead they proposed very minor changes.”
Auto dealers are required to say whether used cars areĀ sold “as is” or with a warranty in a Buyers Guide. Some people wanted that guide to include information about wrecks and flooding, which consumers have to look up on their own.
You can view the proposed rule and comment online at the FTC website.
