PC Mag has the story…
The employee’s exploits were detailed in a Jan. 13 blog post from J. Andrew Valentine, a principal and team lead with the forensic and investigative response team within Verizon. The blog post appears to have been pulled offline, but a cached version is still available.
He was allowed to work from home, so he gave someone in China his login to the company’s secure network and paid the guy a small percentage of his six-figure salary to do his job for him. He may have done this for multiple jobs, even.
They caught him by looking at the network’s activity logs and finding someone from China was logged in, and had been logging in regularly. The company contacted experts at Verizon to help them figure it out, and soon realized they were paying the employee to goof off – while trusting the security of their network and all its data to a stranger.
