Google Glass Already Being Banned In Some Places
The tech company's eye-catching eyewear isn't even for sale yet, but that isn't stopping at least one business from rejecting it.
Forbes writes that Seattle’s 5 Point Cafe has already posted a Facebook message threatening to kick the butt of any patrons wearing a pair.
Seattle’s a city with a lot of tech companies and start-ups: It’s the home of Amazon and Microsoft’s close by. So there’s every reason to believe Google’s glasses – due out later this year – will see early adoption there.
5 Point owner Dave Meinert told MyNorthwest.com, “Part of this is a joke, to be funny on Facebook and get a reaction, but part of it is serious because we don’t let people film other people or take unwanted photos of other people in the bar because it’s kind of a private place people go.”
Google glasses are basically a wearable, voice-controlled camera that also give directions and information, as well as allowing video chat and voice translation. In short, they’re a computer you wear on your face.
You can see the cause for privacy concerns: With a traditional camera or smart phone, you can at least see someone taking a picture. With Google glasses, no way.
If you already have plans to buy a pair, might want to take potential banishment into consideration.
Maybe it’s a good thing Google doesn’t plan to bring its prototype talking shoe to market.
