More than 7.4 million people will receive small checks from a pair of settlements related to credit card foreign transaction fees.

From CCFSettlement.com, the official website for the settlements:

On April 16, 2013, the court approved a distribution of checks concerning foreign transaction fee claims made in connection with the settlements in the two related matters In re Currency Conversion Fee Antitrust Litig. and Ross, et al. v. American Express Co., et al. (The initial distribution of checks in connection with the currency conversion fee settlement was completed by mid-January 2012.)

The settlement administrator will be issuing distribution checks to authorized claimants during the period from approximately mid-May to mid-July 2013.

The deadline to file a claim for fees charged between 1996 and 2006 was more than five years ago, in May 2008, so you may not immediately identify the mail as a settlement check. They may arrive with “American Express PX Fee Litigation” in the return address. However, the website says, “Ross v. American Express does not involve American Express credit or charge cards; only certain Visa, MasterCard and/or Diners Club credit and/or charge cards are covered.”

Someone I know received a postcard-sized check this weekend for the amount of $8.23.

If you think you participated in this settlement, watch the mail. If you’re not sure, contact the settlement administrator. The checks expire in 90 days.
