When a classic car is found stashed away, untouched for many years, it’s called a barn find.
When hundreds of them are found, with single-digit odometer readings and the manufacturer’s certificate of origin, it’s called a time capsule.
Lambrecht Chevrolet, a mom-and-pop dealership that ran for 50 years before shutting down in 1996, is auctioning off a cache of virtually untouched beauties.
Jeannie Lambrecht Stillwell is the daughter of the owners, who are now in their 90s, and she wrote a touching letter on their behalf. It goes through the whole history of the family and the company, from elephants at the grand opening in 1946 to the couple’s retirement and the present decision to auction off its unsold vehicles:
The decision to auction the inventory of Lambrecht Chevrolet Company was a difficult and painful one. The collection of over 500 true survivor vehicles comprise a lifetime of hard work, tears, and joy for both of my parents. The dealership today is a virtual time capsule that will be opened and all contents will be sold at auction. The inventory of the dealership’s vehicles includes many new cars with original MSOs as well as hundreds of rare ’50s and ’60s Chevys ideal for restoration projects.
Old Cars Weekly has a partial list of the cars to be auctioned, which also includes some low-mileage trade-ins. For the most part, though, these cars were never sold and have fewer than 10 miles on them.
Models as early as 1958 and as late as 1984 are available, including pickups, Corvairs, Corvettes, Impalas and Malibus. The auction site featuring Stillwell’s letter also has video and photos.
The collection will be auctioned off over two days, starting on Sept. 28 in Pierce, Neb. Any chance you’re going?
