Toward the end of 2011, American Express and MasterCard were offering customers free holiday cash in the form of statement credits for select purchases. Even though the holidays are behind us, the savings keep coming. At least if you know where to look.

Here are three offers from major credit card processors that you can take advantage of right now…

1. Big discount on Virgin America flights

For those who like to see some substance mixed in with the Super Bowl hype, Visa is offering a 20 percent discount off your next flight on Virgin America airlines when you “like” Visa NFL on Facebook.

To take advantage of this offer, simply go to this page and get a promotional code sent to your email. (Hint: I received my code without having to actually log into Facebook or “like” anyone).

Use the promotional code to search for flights at Virgin America’s website. It’s actually quite simple, and the 20 percent off can represent some serious savings in the competitive airfare market. For example, I was able to find a round-trip flight between New York and Los Angeles for a mere $236 including all taxes and fees. The offer ends on Feb. 29 (leap day) and is valid for travel between Jan. 10 and Feb. 29 or between April 15 and June 15. Blackout dates are Feb. 17, Feb. 20, May 25, and May 28.

2. New York City residents and visitors get cash back

Like their “Small Business Saturday” promotion last year, American Express is tempting cardholders with a cash reward as a statement credit for shopping at specific stores in New York City. This time around, they are calling it “Mix-n-Match.” Cardholders must register their card to qualify at this site. Then, spend $200 with qualifying retailers to get a $50 cash reward.

Purchases must be made on any day during February while shopping at at least two of the merchants listed. There are many enticing retail, dining, and entertainment options that qualify. If last year’s Small Business Saturday promotion is any indication, it may even be possible for individuals to register more than one American Express card for this promotion.

The downside? All the stores are in the Big Apple. Hopefully, this offer will soon be extended beyond New York City.

3. Discounts for online purchases At Vente-Privee

American Express has a new online shopping site called Vente-Privee. The site sells high fashion at discount prices – you can read about it here.

They’re currently offering a series of discounts for their cardholders. Get a $25 statement credit with first purchase of $50 or more when you use an American Express card from Jan. 15 to March 31. And shoppers who direct others to the site can receive an additional $20 credit for each referral.

I also have it on good authority that holders of multiple American Express cards can receive both credits multiple times, simply by registering with a different email address. Finally, those who register their card(s) with American Express’ Gift Chain program will also receive a free gift when they spend more than $25 at a qualifying retailer, and Vente-Privee is one of them.
