If you live in the Los Angeles or New York metropolitan areas, you may already be able to get Sunday delivery. Others will get it next year.
Amazon is partnering with the U.S. Postal Service to offer Sunday delivery. Amazon Prime members in the Los Angeles and New York City metro areas can get Sunday delivery now, Amazon says, and it plans to expand it “to a large portion of the U.S. population in 2014 including Dallas, Houston, New Orleans and Phoenix, to name a few.”
Amazon Prime, for $79 a year, guarantees two-day shipping on many of the site’s items and grants access to a library of streaming TV and video. While it sounds like only Prime subscribers can get Sunday delivery right away, the service will eventually be free for everybody.
“Sunday delivery will be available to all Amazon customers for no extra charge but Amazon expects it will be particularly popular with members of its Prime service,” The Associated Press says.
A USPS spokesperson told the AP it shouldn’t need to hire additional workers for Sunday delivery, since it has been transitioning employees to flexible schedules over the past year and a half. USPS already delivers on Sunday for its fastest service, Priority Mail Express.
