Are You Being Watched Online?

By on

The idea that we have limited privacy online isn’t new. But looking at all the figures rounded up in a new infographic by Qnary, it is a little scary.

For instance, they say 82 percent of children have a presence (at least records) online by age two. 87 percent of U.S. citizens can be identified by the combination of zip code, birthday, and gender. And “people” search engines like Spokeo were used more than 240 million times in the first six months of 2012.

There’s a lot more in the graphic below from Qnary, which is a startup that hopes to help people use their personal info to their benefit, for example to get targeted deals and discounts.

Comments & discussion

We welcome your opinions, but let’s keep it civil. Like many businesses, we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone. In our case, that means those who communicate by name-calling, racism, using words designed to hurt others or generally acting like an uninformed bully. Also, comments that include links to email addresses or commercial websites typically aren't posted. This isn't a place to advertise your business.
