If your plans for ringing in the new year involve shopping or traveling, there’s a good chance you can earn some handsome cash back for it.

That’s because Ebates.com is offering extra cash back this week at more than two dozen merchants, which include the usual sampling of national retailers as well as several travel booking websites.

The retailers offering cash back as of Tuesday include:

  • Amazon: Up to 10 percent
  • Bon-Ton: 4 percent
  • JCPenney: 6 percent
  • Kohl’s: 6 percent
  • Lane Bryant: 5 percent
  • Macy’s: 6 percent
  • New Balance: 10 percent
  • Nike: 11 percent
  • Norton Security software: Up to 30 percent
  • QVC: 6 percent
  • Sears: 4 percent

Travel sites offering cash back include:

  • Booking.com: 4 percent
  • Expedia: Up to 10 percent
  • Hotels.com: Up to 6 percent
  • Hotwire: Up to 6 percent
  • Marriott: 5 percent

Ebates is a cash-back portal. So by doing your online shopping through Ebates.com, you’ll earn cash back — during this promotion and in the future — on purchases from more than 2,000 merchants.

It’s free to sign up for an Ebates account, and it’s free to use the portal.

There is no “catch.” Ebates receives a commission from retailers for referring online shoppers to those retailers’ websites. Then, Ebates shares that commission with shoppers to encourage them to continue using Ebates — a win-win.

You will receive cash back from Ebates quarterly, as long as you’ve accumulated at least $5.01 in cash back.

I’ve racked up $68.10 in cash back from Ebates so far this holiday season, largely by taking advantage of promotions like the one going on this week.

Ebates is among the oldest and best known cash-back portals, but it’s not the only one. Others include MrRebates.com, Swagbucks.com and TopCashBack.com.

Even if you already have an Ebates account, you might want to check out other cash-back portals because different portals often offer different cash-back percentages for a given retailer.
