Infomercial Pitchman Kevin Trudeau Behind Bars

It’s the case “they” don’t want you to know about — infamous infomercial star Kevin Trudeau is going to prison.

Lying has a way of catching up to you. Especially when you do it on television for years.

Kevin Trudeau, author of “The Weight-Loss Cure ‘They’ Don’t Want You to Know About” and infomercial star, has gotten in trouble for lying before. Slate, writing about the latest, sums it up nicely:

A man who’s done jail time for fraud, a man who got rich making multiple false claims, someone who sold “coral calcium” claiming that it can cure cancer, and has been found in contempt of court for not paying a whopping $37 million fine laid on him — has again been found guilty of contempt of court.

This time, his stay behind bars is likely to last longer. In under 45 minutes, a federal jury found him guilty of criminal contempt of court, a crime with no maximum sentence, Slate says. The jury determined he willfully misrepresented what his diet book was about in infomercials that aired in 2006 and 2007.

The book required all kinds of crazy things, including a 500-calorie-per-day diet, use of a prescription hormone banned for use in dieting, and colon cleansing, The Chicago Sun-Times says says. Yet on TV, Trudeau claimed his book “is not a diet, is not portion control, is not calorie counting.”

The judge, Ronald Guzman, had Trudeau taken into custody out of fear he might try to flee law enforcement, the Sun-Times says. The court believes he has more than enough money to run away — and to pay the $37 million fine he’s been avoiding. He’ll be sentenced in February, The Chicago Tribune says.

“Lying has a way of catching up to you”, unless, of course, if you’re the president selling Obamacare, and the media are too sycophantic and/or intimidated to report on it. Trudeau by comparison, is a run-of-the-mill pickpocket.

    • ModernMode

I’ll never understand why republicans don’t want poor people to have healthcare.

      • Malcom Treadway

        I’m sure.

It’s not that we don’t want you to have health care. If you don’t work and don’t intend to work, smoke cigarettes, drink alcohol or due drugs we don’t want to pay for it. This is not rocket science. If you are a freeloader society will be better off if you don’t receive medical attention.

        • ModernMode

Even if you’re right and a total bum goes to the emergency room, who do you think pays for that? The hospital can’t refuse service. They charge more to other people to cover the bums. And catching a problem EARLY is much cheaper than when a desperate person goes to the hospital.

          • Draftdog

How many bums have you seen in the emergency ward? Most die in the streets. Who says a hospital can not refuse service? Economically, if you were talking about one person it would make sense, but overall providing comprehensive health care for those that are not willing to contribute to society is not economic responsibility I want to undertake.

Good points. I am not rich. I live on less than 40K a year but I have always worked and taken care of me and mine. I expect others to do the same. Read my statement. I did not exclude anyone from help that wants to help themselves. I collected unemployment payments about 30+ years ago. The worst six weeks of my life.

I have lived on this planet for 68 years and I find your opinion of the Republican party to be true of nearly every politician, regardless of political affiliation. By the way our congressional representatives are not effected by Social Security. They have a separate, and lucrative, retirement program, so voting for or against has not personal effect on them.
