Sam’s Club is luring in Pokemon Go players with a new promotion.

The wholesale club chain is offering a free one-day shopping pass and free cookie to players of the popular new smartphone game through July 31.

These passes do not entail the 10 percent surcharge that Sam’s Club generally charges to nonmember shoppers.

This promotion was recently announced on the Sam’s Club Facebook and Twitter accounts. A comment on the company’s Facebook page explains:

“… as a Pokemon Trainer show your application and receive a Free One Day Pass and a Free Cookie! While shopping in the club don’t forget to capture Pokemon along the way.”

Players are also known as “trainers.” The augmented-reality game encourages them to get out in the real world to find and capture fictional creatures called Pokemon.

Pokemon Go became an overnight viral phenomenon after Nintendo, software developer Niantic Inc. and the Pokemon Co.released it on July 6.

It’s a free app available for Apple iOS and Android devices.
