Here are some interesting and amusing developments from the past week that aren’t exactly news, but might make you smile.

1. Recycling lobster remains is no shell game

Friday was Earth Day, and here’s one recycling story that was amusing and, for some reason, disturbing: Lobster shells “are being used to manufacture decorative tiles, trivets and drinking-glass coasters,” MSNBC reported. And researchers are working on incorporating them into countertops, tabletops, and even golf balls.

2. Goofy drinks go into overdrive for summer at fast-food spots

Money might still be tight these days, but there’s one frivolity Americans will not be denied: goofy drinks, ranging from McDonald’s “McCafe Frozen Strawberry Lemonade” to Dunkin’ Donuts’ “Mountain Dew Coolatta.”

3. Lawsuit questioning Taco Bell’s beef is dropped

Some folks joke about whether there’s really beef in Taco Bell offerings, but a lawsuit on the topic has failed. “Law firm said Monday it has withdrawn its class-action lawsuit that sought to force Taco Bell to stop calling the meat it serves beef,” the Associated Press reported.

4. ‘Happy Days’ actors claim fraud, money owed for merchandising

The cast of Happy Days is not happy. “Four cast members, and the estate of Tom Bosley, who died last October, claim CBS, which owns the show, has not paid them for merchandising revenues they are owed under their contracts,” CNN reported. An interesting fight for a show that went off the air more than a quarter of a century ago. (The show ran from 1974 to 1984.)

5. Had a naughty misdial? Porn firm snaps up 1-800 numbers

If you think pornography has taken over the Internet, listen to this: “Over the past 13 years, a little-known Philadelphia company called PrimeTel Communications has quietly gained control over nearly a quarter of all the 1-800 numbers in the U.S. and Canada,” USA Today reported.
