October is the month when millions of children (and even some adults!) dress up and go door-to-door seeking candy. Yes, Halloween just may be the ultimate mass freebie event.
But you don’t have to wait until the 31st to get something for nothing. Our list of freebies features events that occur throughout the month. Because this is October, many of the freebies have a Halloween theme, and all are frightfully good.
Following are seven freebies you can score in October. We promise the deals here involve no tricks — only treats.
1. Free financial planning: throughout October

With the end of the year approaching, perhaps you’re already thinking about 2017 resolutions — such as finally putting your financial life in order.
Get a head start on those goals by meeting with a money pro. October is Financial Planning Month, and you can get a free session with a Certified Financial Planner at cities across America.
To find out more, visit the FinancialPlanningDays.org website, where you will find a schedule of upcoming events across America.
2. Free bagel and cream cheese: throughout October

A hot cup of coffee and a bagel can hit the spot on a cool fall day. Half of that combination is now free at Bruegger’s Bagels. Through Nov. 2, you can get a gratis bagel with cream cheese with any beverage purchase.
Now is a perfect time to indulge in special seasonal bagels, like their “Fall Special” French toast and pumpkin bagels!
3. Free any-size coffee: through Oct. 9

Need a cup of joe to make it through the morning? Get a jump on your day with a free coffee at 7-Eleven.
Best of all, you can choose any size java you like. The only catch is that you have to download and use the 7-Eleven app to get your free brew.
4. Free tacos: Oct. 4

Tomorrow is National Taco Day, and you can celebrate with a free taco at many different restaurants, including:
- Green Leaf’s Beyond Great Salads: free Baja Street Taco with $5 purchase
- KOi Fusion: free tacos 11 a.m. to noon
- Taco Cabana: free Chicken Fajita Taco from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
- Jimboy’s Tacos: free beef or bean tacos
You can find more restaurants that are offering free or discounted tacos at the National Taco Day website.
5. Free pumpkin carving: Oct. 8

Lowe’s stores are offering a free pumpkin carving demonstration for adults beginning at 10 a.m. on Oct. 9. Kids who attend will receive a free pint-sized pumpkin and stickers to decorate it.
Visit the Lowe’s website to register.
6. Free comic books: Oct. 29

Unleash the kid inside by picking up a free comic book this Halloween season. Halloween ComicFest is an annual event celebrated at comic specialty stores across America. Stop in at one of these retailers and get a free comic from a selection featuring everyone from Spider-Man and Darth Vader to Scooby-Doo and My Little Pony.
Peruse the list of the free titles and search for a shop near you that is participating in the event.
7. Free Scary Face Pancakes: Oct. 31

On Halloween, kick off a day of sweet treats by taking your little ghosts and goblins to IHOP for a free Scary Face Pancake. From 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., kids 12 and under will get a buttermilk pancake “topped with whipped cream, a strawberry nose and served with a side of Oreo cookies and candy corn,” according to IHOP.
If you can’t get to IHOP on Halloween, don’t fear — Scary Face Pancakes are available as part of the Kids Eat Free promotion, which allows children 12 and under to eat free throughout the month when you purchase an adult entree from 4 to 10 p.m.
