“Free” and “coffee” are among most folks’ favorite words. And, on one day each year, you can get a gratis cup of joe at coffee shops and similar eateries across the country.

Friday is National Coffee Day. This year, the following chains will hand out coffee that’s either completely free or free with a purchase.

Consider calling ahead to the locations in your area to confirm they are participating in these offers, though. In most cases, companies have only said these offers are available at “participating locations.”

Cinnabon

This cinnamon roll maker is offering a free 12-ounce coffee all day Friday.

Duck Donuts

If you buy a hot coffee from any store in this chain on Friday, you will get a hot coffee for free. Just mention this promotion to the cashier at checkout.

Note that the freebie must be of equal or lesser value than the coffee you actually buy. Also, syrups and espresso drinks are excluded from this offer.

Duck Donuts’ locations are currently all along the East Coast of the U.S.

Dunkin’ Donuts

If you buy a medium, large or extra-large cup of Dunkin’ Donuts’ signature hot coffee on Friday, you will get a medium hot coffee for free. This offer is available at participating locations nationwide.

Krispy Kreme

This doughnut shop chain is turning National Coffee Day into National Coffee Weekend by offering customers one free cup each day from Friday through Sunday.

For your freebie, you can choose any size hot coffee, in either Krispy Kreme’s Smooth blend or Rich blend, or get a small iced coffee.

Just note that participating Krispy Kreme shops in the U.S. and Canada are offering this freebie. The company’s National Coffee Day webpage notes that the offer is not valid at locations inside grocery stores, convenience stores or Connecticut casinos. Also, a few locations in Kansas, Missouri and South Carolina are not participating.

Pilot and Flying J

These travel center chains will give you a free small cup of Pilot Coffee or another hot beverage such as a free small hot tea or cappuccino on Friday from 12:01 a.m. ET to 11:59 p.m. ET. The offer is available at participating locations across North America — of which there are more than 750.

Note that while no purchase is necessary, you do need the online coupon. You can print it or display it on your phone.
