Mark your calendar for July 11 — that’s the third annual Prime Day, Amazon has officially announced.

Don’t sit around waiting for that date, though. Deals are actually already underway. Here’s what you should know well before Prime Day arrives.

What exactly is Amazon Prime Day?

“Prime Day” is Amazon’s colossal annual sale. It’s named after Amazon Prime, a unique membership program that offers subscribers a vast and growing variety of perks. For details, see “8 Major Freebies and Discounts You Get With Amazon Prime.”

Prime Day involves a host of deals centered on one day. This year, it will involve “hundreds of thousands of deals,” Amazon says.

How to take advantage of Prime Day — for free

You don’t need to pay for a Prime subscription to participate in Prime Day. Instead, sign up for the free 30-day trial. Just click on the yellow “Start your 30-day Prime free trial” button on the Amazon Prime webpage.

As Amazon states, “To participate in Prime Day, sign up or start a free Prime trial any time before or on July 11.”

When your 30-day trial ends, you will be charged for a Prime membership unless you cancel it. So if you decide you don’t want to pay for a membership after taking advantage of Prime Day, just remember to cancel in time.

What’s special about Prime Day 2017

Perhaps the biggest change for the latest Prime Day is that it will last longer — 30 hours instead of 24 hours. It will start at 6 p.m. PT on July 10 and run through July 11.

Amazon says other new features of Prime Day will include the following:

  • Voice shopping: There will be even more Alexa-exclusive deals for members with an Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, Echo Show, Amazon Tap, compatible Fire TV or Fire tablet.
  • Watch a Deal: The Amazon App allows early deal watching in every country. Preview, track and shop deals while at home or on-the-go with deal alerts on the Amazon App. Learn more at amazon.com/watched. …
  • Amazon’s big TV deal: Prime Day will include amazing TV deals, with a variety of great brands including the all-new Element 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV - Amazon Fire TV Edition. Amazon is planning one of its largest total volume TV deals in history with a record level of inventory, but, once again, the TV deals will likely sell out.

Prime Day deals are available right now

Amazon says it will offer Prime members “all kinds of exclusive promotions and deals” every day leading up to Prime Day. So bookmark the Prime Day webpage and check it often well in advance of the big deal.

These deals are available right now, according to Amazon:
