June 2 is National Donut Day. The delicious holiday dates back to 1917, when Salvation Army volunteers called “Donut Lassies” made the tasty treats for soldiers on the front lines during World War I.

In celebration, LaMar’s Donuts & Coffee has partnered with the Salvation Army to host an annual fundraising event, and the doughnut chain is giving out a free doughnut to everyone who visits a LaMar’s location.

Dunkin Donuts is also celebrating the big day by giving away gratis doughnuts to everyone who purchases a beverage.
