14 Products That Are Still Made in America

It used to be that you’d see “Made in USA” on everything from salad bowls to skirts. Those three words are tougher to find now. Many products and parts are made elsewhere, from China to Canada.

But with a little scouting, it is possible to find and buy American-made products. In fact, some of the most cherished brands make products in the 50 nifty United States. Following is a look at several of them.

Although some of these companies might outsource parts or use production facilities overseas, at least a majority of their products are made in the USA.

1. Zippo lighters

Zippo lighters have been produced since George G. Blaisdell created the first one in 1932, and they still burn brightly.

As we mention in “9 Indestructible Products That Are Worth the Price,” the company will fix its Windproof lighters for free, even if they’re decades old.

Zippo lighters are made in Bradford, Pennsylvania. The location is stamped on the bottom of each lighter.

2. Tom’s of Maine toothpaste

Tom’s of Maine isn’t kidding about that “of Maine” part. All of the company’s toothpaste, as well as its stick deodorant, is made in Sanford, Maine, Tom’s says.

3. Lodge cast iron cookware

Lodge cast iron pans are a cook’s best friend, allowing you to turn out everything from juicy burgers to skillet cornbread.

Its cast iron cookware has been made in Tennessee since 1896, the company website says. You can even tour the Lodge foundry at a certain time of year.

4. KitchenAid mixers

KitchenAid mixers whip cream, knead bread dough and take care of a host of other kitchen tasks. They come in every color of the rainbow and then some.

KitchenAid says its famous stand mixer “is engineered and assembled in America.” They are produced in Greenville, Ohio. You can tour the factory and a museum honoring the appliance. Bon appetit!

5. MagLite flashlights

Whether you’re a cop hunting for a criminal or a homeowner taking out the trash, MagLite flashlights will light up the night.

The company is proud of its American-made tradition. Its flashlight factory, office and distribution center are in Ontario, California.

That doesn’t mean that components aren’t made abroad, the company says, adding, “… when a product of ours does include some foreign content, we duly note that on package labeling.”

6. Tervis containers

The handy double-walled insulated tumblers from Tervis Tumbler Co. can be found everywhere from a second-grader’s school backpack to a marathoner’s duffel bag.

The Florida-based company says it “employs more than 900 people and is celebrating 70 years of Made in the USA success.” It also sells other drinking vessels, from baby sippy cups to wine glasses.

7. Red Wing boots

Many shopping websites let you filter the products you see by price, color or other factors. Red Wing, Minnesota-based Red Wing Shoes goes a step further and lets you sort products by country of origin.

Its website has an extensive filter menu, which lets you see products that are:

  • Made in the USA
  • Made in the USA with imported materials
  • Assembled in the USA with imported components

If you prefer to shop on Amazon, where Red Wing Shoes also has a storefront, you will find similar information in product descriptions when relevant.

8. Wilson footballs

Every point ever scored in the NFL has been scored with a Wilson football — all of which have been handmade in Ohio.

Wilson says:

“More than 700,000 footballs a year have been handmade in Ada, Ohio, by Wilson’s talented craftsmen and women since 1955.”

9. Stihl outdoor tools

Stihl Inc. boasts that a majority of its gasoline-powered outdoor tools sold in the U.S. are “made in America by Americans.”

In a manufacturing facility in Virginia Beach, Virginia, the company makes millions of finished products annually and sends them to more than 90 countries around the world for sale, Stihl says.

10. Crayola products

Crayola’s world headquarters and major manufacturing facilities are located in Easton and Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. However, Crayola does have a manufacturing plant in Mexico City.

You can spend a colorful day at the Crayola Experience, where you can see crayons and markers made, see exhibits and enjoy crafts, in downtown Easton as well as in Orlando, Florida; Minneapolis, Minnesota; Plano, Texas; and Chandler, Arizona.

11. FlipFold

Ever watched a mall clothing-store employee refolding clothing? Chances are, they’re using a FlipFold to get that perfect fold every time.

The company’s shirt and laundry folder is a snap to use. And it’s made in the USA. In no time, your dresser drawers will look like you work at The Gap.

12. Dum Dum lollipops

The folks who make Dum Dum lollipops are no dum-dums. Spangler Candy Co. crafts the sweet little suckers — 12 million of them a day — in its 500,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Bryan, Ohio.

With flavors ranging from Bubble Gum and Peach Mango to Root Beer and the vaunted Mystery Flavor, these sweet treats are all-American.

13. Airstream trailers

It’s hard to see a shiny silver Airstream trailer and not long to take one out on the road.

You’ll see these sleek vehicles — new ones and vintage models — used for vacationing and camping, as homes and to house businesses.

The company’s factory, in Jackson Center, Ohio, has been building Airstreams since 1952. Approximately 70% of the Airstream travel trailers ever built are still on the road, Airstream says.

14. Yankee Candle products

If you’re going to use “Yankee” in your name, you’d best be able to back that up. Yankee Candle Co. delivers. A majority of its candles are made in Massachusetts, the company says.

Yankee Candle Co. operates a catalog and online business and hundreds of retail stores.
