We took a look at the most expensive home for sale in every state.

For the purposes of this ranking, we looked at nonfarm properties consisting of one single-family home and chose those with the highest list price on Zillow at the time this article was written. We also have omitted properties with undisclosed addresses.

50. North Dakota

List price: $1.89 million

Location: West Fargo

This six-bedroom, six-bath home is a fantastic gateway to the life of luxury, with a saltwater pool and hot tub, outdoor living room, theater, bar and wine room. The exquisitely appointed kitchen alone features $80,000 in appliances, according to the listing.

49. South Dakota

List price: $2.25 million

Location: Harrisburg

The woodwork is striking at this 20-acre country estate close to Sioux Falls, especially in the 18-foot-ceiling great room. The wide-open floor plan and two gigantic kitchen islands provide ample space for hosting parties.

It’s not just mansions that are relatively affordable in Oklahoma. A 2019 analysis found that the Sooner State also boasts the second-most-affordable starter homes of any state.

With this property, however, be sure to budget for property taxes. WalletHub recently ranked Illinois as having the second-highest effective real estate tax rate in the country.
