Walmart has created another way for you to save money.

Called a “pickup discount,” it’s an additional price break on certain items that are sold only online, Walmart announced Wednesday. To get the discount, order eligible items online and opt to have them shipped to a Walmart store rather than your home. You then pick up the items at the store.

This news comes a few months after Walmart started offering free two-day shipping for online purchases, with no membership fee necessary anymore, and lowered the minimum purchase amount required to qualify for free shipping from $50 to $35.

Walmart’s new pickup discounts will be available starting April 19 for about 10,000 items. By the end of June, they will be available for more than 1 million of “the most popular items,” according to the announcement.

Product descriptions for items that are eligible for the discount will be marked with the words “Pickup Discount” on Walmart’s website. Here are a few examples of what you can expect to save:

  • Britax B-SAFE 35 Infant Car Seat, Slate Strie: $148.05 online price – $7.40 pickup discount = $140.65 final price
  • LEGO City Great Vehicles Ferry, 60119: $23.99 – $2.55 = $21.44
  • Coleman 150-quart Heritage XP Marine Cooler: $111.49 – $4.46 = $107.03
  • VIZIO SmartCast M-Series 70″ Class 4K Ultra HDTV (M70-D3): $1,698 – $50 = $1,648

Marc Lore, president and CEO of Walmart’s U.S. eCommerce division, explains in the announcement that Walmart is able to offer additional discounts to customers willing to pick up eligible online orders in stores because it saves Walmart last-mile delivery costs. Those costs represent the bulk of the costs of shipping products directly to customers’ homes.

Lore continues:

“This means, quite simply, it costs less for us to ship to stores. So, our customers should share in those savings.”

Another advantage of this program is that, because you are shopping online, you can also save money — on top of the pickup discount — by using a cash-back portal like Ebates.
