More Billionaires Promise to Donate Much of Their Money

By on

You’ve got to love these folks. Seven more billionaires have promised to donate a large chunk of their fortunes to charitable causes.

They’ve joined The Giving Pledge, formed in 2010 by philanthropic powerhouses Warren Buffett and Bill and Melinda Gates.

Here are the latest pledgers, according to Forbes:

  • Bob Parsons, founder of GoDaddy.com, and his wife, Renee Parsons.
  • Groupon co-founder Eric Lefkofsky and his wife, Liz Lefkofsky.
  • Seth Klarman, a hedge fund manager, and his wife, Beth Klarman.
  • Hoteliers Richard E. and Nancy P. Marriott.
  • Biotech mogul Hansjörg Wyss.
  • Fund manager Yuri Milner, an early Facebook investor.
  • Dato’ Sri DR Tahir, who made his fortune in banking and real estate.

With the latest additions, The Giving Pledge now has commitments from 122 billionaires in 12 countries. To join, you have to promise to donate the majority of your fortune.

Forbes says that many of these folks aren’t new to charitable giving in a large way. But joining the Pledge is intended to encourage other extremely wealthy to participate.

And honestly, aren’t the super rich in need of some good publicity with all of the attention paid to increasing wealth inequality in the U.S.

CNNMoney says the members of this very exclusive club are free to give to the charities of their choice and fund those causes that are closest to their hearts.
