If you own a small business, you’ve probably considered becoming a corporation. It can be a big expense, especially if you go to a lawyer. But, by doing it yourself, you can save the legal bills.

Companies like Legal Zoom and We The People offer (relatively) cheap incorporating alternatives. You pay around $300, fill out a few forms, and they take care of the rest, filing with the state government for you.

For the more “do-it-yourselfer”, incorporating a small business is often as simple as filing directly online with your state. Go this route, and you’ll only pay filing fees. But, before you do it yourself, a quick call or meeting with a pro might be a good idea. There are a plethora of things to consider before incorporating, and a few quick tips from a professional might save you a ton of headache down the road.
