Prices for the Super Bowl

DealNews made some calculations about the costs surrounding the Super Bowl…

Professional American football is big, big business today, a fact that will be especially evident on Super Bowl Sunday in two weeks. Regardless of who takes the field — or even who wins the game — there’s a lot at stake, as the contest will generate all sorts of eye-popping revenue, ad sales, chicken wing guzzling, and commerce of all kinds. Even the Super Bowl rings will cost an estimated $6,000, and are worth far more on the open market as collectors’ items.

Here’s some of the costs they figured out, based on last year’s numbers or information online…

  • Tickets: $2,067 and up
  • Hotel: $100 a night to $15,000
  • Snacks: an average of $3 per viewer (based on $55 million spent on food and $237 million on soft drinks last year)
  • Beer: an average of $9 per person (ditto)
  • Pizza: More than $20. DealNews says drivers sometimes get that much as a tip for the big game!
  • Bets: Over $90 million (legally)
  • Ads: Over $4 million for 30 seconds

Comments & discussion

We welcome your opinions, but let’s keep it civil. Like many businesses, we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone. In our case, that means those who communicate by name-calling, racism, using words designed to hurt others or generally acting like an uninformed bully. Also, comments that include links to email addresses or commercial websites typically aren't posted. This isn't a place to advertise your business.
