A man who makes his living selling lottery tickets found a lost winning ticket — and was honest enough to turn it in. Would you?

Someone in Spain has no idea he or she is a millionaire — or might have been.

A winning lottery ticket from June 2012 was recently found and turned over to police, the BBC says. It’s worth 4.7 million euros, or about $6.3 million.

The man who found it, Manuel Reija Gonzalez, is a lottery ticket seller in northwestern Spain, the BBC says. Gonzalez didn’t sell the ticket in 2012, but was able to check its numbers in the system and discovered it had won. He found it on the counter of another shop that sells tickets, says The Local.

“Because here was somebody who had a problem forgetting his ticket and I put myself in his shoes, and it’s the sort of thing I could have done,” Gonzalez told the BBC. “I thought the best thing to do was just to return the ticket.”

The ticket is being advertised in the lost and found section on a city website. Asked if he thought about keeping the ticket for himself, Gonzalez told Spanish newspaper La Voz de Galicia he never considered it because he wouldn’t have been able to sleep.

Honesty was the best policy for Gonzalez — he gets the peace of mind, and still might get the money. If no claimant can prove ownership of the ticket by providing details about when and where it was purchased, the winnings will go to Gonzalez.

What would you do if you found a winning lottery ticket? Let us know on Facebook.
