Police Catch Possible $30-Million Syrup Thieves

Talk about sticky fingers. A bizarre story about three to eight guys who allegedly stole a warehouse full of Canadian maple syrup.

There are so many weird elements to this Globe and Mail story you have to read the whole thing. But here’s a snippet…

The police investigation spanned two countries and several Canadian provinces. Investigators met with nearly 300 people and executed search warrants in New Brunswick, Ontario and the United States.

They’re not sure when the syrup went missing – sometime between last August and this July – and it’s not clear how many people were involved. And they won’t say how much was stolen, just that two-thirds of it has been recovered. By now, maybe the other third has been consumed.
