If you’ve been racking your brain, trying to come up with a holiday gift idea for the person in your life who has everything, look no further. Nordstrom is selling a truly one-of-a-kind item this holiday season — a rock, wrapped in a leather pouch.
You read that correctly. Nordstrom is selling a rock — described as a “smooth Los Angeles-area stone — wrapped in rich, vegetable-tanned American leather secured by sturdy contrast whipstitching” — on its website for $85.
The “medium wrapped leather stone” comes from Made Solid, a collection of leather products designed and “handmade” in Los Angeles by artist Peter Maxwell, according to the Made Solid website.
If you think $85 is a little steep for a simple leather-encased rock, Nordstrom is also selling a smaller rock in a pouch, also from Made Solid, for $65.
Nordstrom spokeswoman Brie Cross tells BuzzFeed News that the rocks have been for sale on its website since Nov. 18. Cross says that although “only Mother Earth can take credit for rocks,” the leather pouch is handmade by Made Solid.
Although you may scoff at shelling out $85 for a rock, Made Solid tells BuzzFeed that the rocks have been one of their “most consistently popular items.”
Made Solid says the stones are “really cool, labor-intensive objects that are used as everything from paperweights to doorstops to home/display accents.”
