Aside from the nutritional value, some airport foods contribute to problems you definitely don't want in the air — like heartburn and bloating.

It’s hard to eat properly when you’re traveling all day. Airports aren’t exactly loaded with cheap options, or healthy ones, even if you have time to stop.

But some foods and beverages are especially bad, Smarter Travel says. The site has highlighted 10 things you shouldn’t put in your belly. Here are a few of them:

  • Crispy Green Beans at P.F. Chang’s China Bistro. “They’re a vegetable and they’re green — what could go wrong? Think again. One order without sauce contains 895 calories; the sauce adds an extra 310 calories in just two ounces of liquid.”
  • Sugar-free drinks at Starbucks. The artificial sweetener Starbucks uses, sucralose, causes bloating and gas in people whose bodies don’t process artificial sweeteners well. Plane pressure can make it worse.
  • Fettuccini Alfredo at Sbarro. That’s  2,940 calories, 60 grams of saturated fat, 350 mg of cholesterol and 4,160 mg of sodium.
  • Volcano Nachos at Taco Bell. It’s  990 calories, 59 grams of fat, and 1,840 mg of sodium, but the worst parts are the spicy cheese and jalapenos (which can contribute to heart burn) and the beans (gas).

The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine has advice on eating healthy when you travel (although its recommendations include beans). It even has help for vegans:

Mexican? Bean burrito, hold the dairy products. Italian? Pasta with vegetables and marinara sauce. Japanese? Edamame and vegetable sushi rolls. Chinese? Steamed mixed vegetables, tofu, and rice.

The group has also ranked the busiest airports by the number of healthy food options. Newark, Las Vegas and Detroit top the list. Atlanta is at the bottom.
