8 Top Tips From A Money Saving Mom

Posted on 08. Oct, 2008 by Money Talks News in Around The House, Family, Video

If you think you know how to save money, think again… When the Rachel Ray show was looking for the thriftiest mom in America, they found Margie Read.

Margie reuses paper towels, and long before it was “in”.  She only runs some of her appliances at night, after 9 when your electricity prices fall.  She’ll reuse dryer sheets up to three times.  Margie only buys when she can find a sale, and regularly shops at the back of stores where marked down items live.  And why not grab some extra condiment packets the next time you’re at a fast food restaurant?  Margie does.  But of course, clipping coupons and scouring the classifieds will also yield some great deals.  As for new, trendy items?  Margie just waits a few months for the price to come down; patience is all it takes.

Think Margie is being too thrifty?  Well, think about this… she says she’s saved enough money through penny pinching to but both her daughters through college.

Just wanted to comment on Margie Read’s interview at noon 47 news. It seems that everone talks about saving money and buying power, but these people are not regular people. They are the rich in America, the very wealthy. At the conclusion of the interview she shows the dining room suit she got on sale and saved $3500. 00. Come on!! Get real!! As an average american I would have to try hard to come up with $350.00 for a dining room suit much less whatever she paid for it. If she saved $3500 how much did she actually pay . Maybe eight or ten thousand dollars. I only earn $13,000 a year so how could I ever spend that much just for one room of furniture. The people who appear on Rachel Ray and these other talk shows are not average Americans. Go to the real people and find out the real truth of how to save money. Joe L. Raulerson

I happen to think that it was an excellent interview. A dollar saved is a dollar saved no matter how much you have or have not in the bank. I’m grateful for any tips shared. I would like to know how Mr. Raulerson lives on $13,000.00 a year, please share some of your tips.
    Thanks,
