5 Ways to Pay For College
Going back to school is one way to make you more recession-proof. Here are 5 ways to pay for it.
Whether you’re going to college for the first time or third, the biggest issue is usually how to pay for it.
“I wanted to go to school and I wasn’t able to because I decided to marry and then I had kids like 3 weeks after I got married I got pregnant, and then I started working.”
-Jasmine Muller, Student
Jasmine knew that going back to school was the smartest thing she could do for herself, but what she didn’t know was how she was going to pay for it.
So she did some research and found an essay contest for a scholarship through Project Working Mom and Dads. She wrote an essay and received a full scholarship to go back to school. Over 5-thousand dollars. Pretty creative way to pay.
“I figured let me create an essay that they can maybe relate to or maybe they can get a feel of me.”
-Jasmine Muller, Student
But even if you’re not the essay type, that doesn’t mean there’s not help out there for education: here are five ideas worth study.
First, check with your employer and see if they offer employee education reimbursement. Then research scholarships for adults, like Jasmine did. Check for age-based discounts: some schools waive tuition for seniors. Beat the local bushes: your church, fraternal organizations, all that jazz. And finally, talk to the financial aid office where you want to attend: if there’s help out there, they’ll know about it. And most important? Don’t give up.
“There’s money out there. I know that it looks really tough, but there is money out there. You just have to find it!”
-Jasmine Muller, Student
Bottom Line? It’s never to late to go back to school: if you can find the money. So, be creative and start studying various options. Jasmine made it happen… so can you.
