9 Sites to Save Money on Craft Supplies

Being crafty doesn’t come cheap. I once spent more than $100 at Hobby Lobby after I decided to take up scrapbooking. Sadly, dropping $100 on a hobby was too much for me, and I didn’t dare go back in a craft store for years.

Had I known you could get craft supplies online for way less, I might be an awesome DIYer right now. As it turns out, you can get good deals on scrapbooking, knitting, crocheting, and jewelry-making supplies if you know where to look. In fact, these nine sites are so cheap, I’ve started buying craft supplies again…

Scrapbooking…

1. Overstock.com

Overstock.com isn’t the first place I’d think to look for scrapbooking supplies, but the site actually has a decent rotation of products from popular brands like Cricut, Martha Stewart, and Pioneer.

Pricewise, Overstock.com has several decent deals – and a few great ones. For example, my friend just bought a Cricut Expressions 2 Cutter Machine at Overstock.com for $183.99. The same machine retails for $299.99 at the Cricut website. Overstock.com also has $2.99 flat-rate shipping on any U.S. order and no tax, so you’ll save even more.

2. Scrapbuck

Scrapbuck has hundreds of embellishments and papers starting at $1 (including brands like K & Company and Making Memories). The site is also one of the easiest to navigate, and you can search by price, brand, or theme.

While Scrapbuck has good deals across the board, you’ll find the best deals in the paper section. For example, I just purchased a 36-pack of assorted card stock for $7 that I saw at Michael’s for $14.99. And if you spend $20 or more, you get free shipping.

3. Scrapbook.com

Scrapbook.com calls itself a megastore for good reason – I’ve spent a few hours on the site, and I still haven’t seen everything they have for sale.

Scrapbook.com has good prices in general, but the site also offers coupons, a clearance section, and a dollar bin. I found a set of 25 Halloween-themed papers on clearance for $13.99 that I had almost purchased at Hobby Lobby for $19.99. And since shipping starts at $2.99, you can save a ton on small orders.

4. Etsy

Etsy has an open marketplace that allows other crafters to sell their leftover supplies, or to create and market their own knitting bags, knitting and crochet needles, and yarn. If you’re looking for hand-spun yarn, Etsy has a wide selection of knits, even organic ones.

Since it’s an open marketplace, sellers price their own items. They run the gamut. Some items are a little overpriced, but I’ve found spools of yarn for less than $2 and knitting bags for less than $5.

5. KnitPicks

KnitPicks has everything you’d ever need, from books to lace. It also has a clearance section that boasts pretty good deals on yarn, books, and supplies.

KnitPicks has good prices overall, but you can find the best deal on books. My friend just bought Finishing School: A Master Class for Knitters for $17.97 – it retails for $29.95. Plus, you’ll get free shipping for any order over $50.

6. Amazon.com

Amazon.com really does have everything, including 36,524 items in the knitting and crochet section. I once took a knitting class with a friend, and I bought everything I needed (including a needle case) from the site.

Pricewise, Amazon.com has good deals – and not-so-good deals. Personally, I’ve found the best deals on bamboo knitting needles and yarn. For example, I just bought a roll of Lily Sugar’n Cream yarn for $1.15. The same yarn retails for $2.49 at Hobby Lobby. And if you shop around, you can find free super-saver shipping deals.

7. Brightlings Beads

The Brightlings Beads site isn’t easy to navigate. You have to sort through several different categories to find what you want, but they do have a great selection if you’re willing to do the extra research.

Pricewise, if you plan to purchase in bulk, you’ll save more shopping at Brightlings Beads. The site discounts each purchase by $1 or more if you buy multiple quantities. And you’ll get free shipping on any order over $25.

8. Create For Less

Create For Less has more than 1,000 different beads, wires, and kits for sale. The site also has a clearance section and sales throughout the year.

Create For Less has lower prices than the brands’ websites. For example, my friend just purchased an economy bag of Millhill beads for $2.49. The same bag costs $5.50 on the Millhill website. And if you spend $100 or more, you get free standard shipping.

9. Artbeads.com

Artbeads.com is an easy site to navigate and they sell thousands of products – everything from necklace wire to seed beads.

Artbeads.com prices run cheaper than those I’ve seen in hobby stores or on other craft sites. For example, Amazon.com has a 16.0 mm sterling silver swivel clasp for $20.03. Artbeads.com is selling the same clasp for $7.79. And the site has free standard shipping for any order over $10.00.
