Homeless Success Stories Didn’t Start With Ted Williams

When I first watched the Youtube video that turned a homeless man from Ohio into an overnight online sensation, it made me and many others smile.

Ted Williams, now known as the man with the golden voice, went from a beggar on the streets to worldwide fame online, then on television.

Williams believes it was his faith that turned his life around. And now the former radio announcer has offer after offer for work landing in his lap.

Typical? Most certainly not. But it’s not unique, either.

In 2008, we shared the story of Carlton Hamilton, a man living on the streets of Miami and in desperate need of help. Though he didn’t find it through his voice, he did find help in a program that taught him how to cook and put those skills to use in a real job, earning a real income.

Check out the following story

And if you’re not homeless but are looking for work, 2011 could be your year too.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. employers added 39,000 jobs to their payrolls in November. Some economists have an optimistic outlook for 2011, expecting hundreds of thousands of new jobs to be created this year. So there’s hope for all those seeking work, homeless and otherwise.

But as you watch the remarkable story of Ted Williams unfold, remember that there are many other unsung heroes helping the homeless every day. Hats off to Hilton Hotels and the Hospitality Institute they created. It’s something more people in corporate America could learn from.
