Do you plan to sell a home this year? If so, the right selling strategy can make the difference between finding a buyer fast and watching your home linger on the market for weeks or months.
Recently, real estate website Zillow offered its tips for selling a home faster in 2024. In a press release, Skylar Olsen, Zillow chief economist, says today’s sellers can expect plenty of interest “if their home is marketed and priced right.”
Here are three ways that today’s sellers can quickly get their home from “for sale” to “sold” this year.
1. Polish your listing
Just about everybody looks for a home online these days, so an appealing real estate listing is crucial to finding the right buyer quickly. Zillow suggests adding upgrades to listings such as larger photos with a higher resolution.
Technology that helps buyers take a virtual tour of your home also can help sell your home faster by giving potential buyers a better feel for the place.
2. Highlight the right features
Highlighting certain features signals to buyers that a home is up-to-date, Zillow says. That can attract buyers looking for a move-in-ready place. According to Zillow:
“Mentioning a steam oven or a pizza oven in a listing description can help a home sell for as much as 5.3% more, while a mention of a doorbell camera can help a home sell five days faster.”

3. Make the right improvements
Buyers typically make at least two improvements to their home before selling, according to Zillow research. But choosing the right improvements can make all the difference in how quickly you sell.
For example, as we have reported, failing to replace old carpet and refusing to freshen the paint in a home can make your home much less attractive. For more errors to avoid, check out “12 Costly Mistakes Home Sellers Make.”
