New car prices are finally coming down a bit, but they still have a long way to go.

The average new car was priced 7.2% over the manufacturer’s suggested retail price as of January, according to a new study from iSeeCars.com. That might not sound great, but it’s actually an improvement over one year earlier, when prices were 8.9% over MSRP.

Even better, asking prices for some cars have actually slipped below the MSRP. Here are several new car models you can buy below their retail value, iSeeCars says.

7. Chrysler Pacifica Plug-in Hybrid

Average MSRP: $48,861 as of January 2024

Average price: $47,691 as of January 2024 (2.4% less than the MSRP)

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is an electric sedan that has a range of more than 350 miles. It is just one of several hybrid or electric vehicles that is selling for a relative bargain these days.

In a summary of the iSeeCars findings, executive analyst Karl Brauer says:

“While finding a discount on a new vehicle remains a challenge, it’s much easier for EV, large truck and SUV shoppers. The market appears to have reached a saturation point for electric vehicles, with both prices and sales struggling compared to a year ago.”

4. Kia EV6

Average MSRP: $53,315 as of January 2024

Average price: $52,004 as of January 2024 (2.5% less than the MSRP)

Not only does the Kia EV6 get more than 300 miles on a full charge, but if you use a DC fast charger, it can go from 10% charged to 80% charged in just 18 minutes.

Average MSRP: $37,964 as of January 2024

Average price: $36,211 as of January 2024 (4.6% less than the MSRP)

The Hyundai Kona Electric has a range of just over 260 miles and comes with standard 17-inch wheels.

In the summary of the iSeeCars findings, Brauer says the falling prices on this list are a foreshadowing of better days to come for car shoppers:

“Supply is gradually catching up with demand, which means even as new car MSRP rises the ability for dealers to charge over MSRP falls. At some point we’ll get back to pre-COVID new car pricing. But we’re not there yet, and at this rate it’s still at least a few years out.”
