The robots are coming — and likely quicker than previously predicted.

Top Chinese technologist Kai-Fu Lee, the founder of venture capital firm Sinovation Ventures, tells CNBC that artificial intelligence is “reshaping the world.”

Lee, the former head of Google China, predicts that artificial intelligence (AI) will replace up to 50 percent of all jobs in the next 10 years, as automation surpasses human ability. He explains to CNBC:

“AI is the singular thing that will be larger than all of human tech revolutions added together — including electricity, [the] industrial revolution, internet, mobile internet — because AI is pervasive. It is the decision-engine that will replace people.”

If you believe your job is protected from AI, think again. In “5 Ways to Outsmart the Robots That Are Stealing Our Jobs, Money Talks News contributor Marilyn Lewis writes:

The danger is not just from assembly-line machines performing tasks humans have done, like stamping out plastic tableware or flipping hamburgers. Smart software and automated processes are handling tasks that until recently it seemed only a human could do, including writing articles like this one.

On a happier note, Lee tells CNBC that AI has the potential to “create a huge amount of wealth for mankind and wipe out poverty.” And he adds that although AI capabilities far surpass those of humans, they can’t replace human-to-human interaction:

“Touching one’s heart with your heart is something that machines, I believe, will never be good at.”
