For a car that will last, consider a foreign-brand SUV or minivan.
They dominate a list of cars most likely to be kept by the same owner for at least 10 years, CBS MoneyWatch reports.
Auto research site iSeeCars.com created the list by studying Carfax data on 400,000 vehicles from model-year 2005 that were sold during the first half of 2015.
Of the top 10 vehicles, only two were sedans. The rest were SUVs or minivans, iSeeCars.com CEO Phong Ly explains:
“These are basically family vehicles, and it could be that buyers originally did research to find something reliable and long-lasting.”
In addition to car types, most of the top vehicles also have two car manufacturers in common: Honda or Toyota.
Ly said he was not surprised that Honda and Toyota dominated the list:
“They base their reputation on reliability.”
Honda and Toyota have also been recognized in recent months as being among the most satisfying car brands in America. Toyota was also among the cars that best retain their value.
The top five longest-lasting vehicles on iSeeCars.com’s latest list are:
- Honda CR-V
- Toyota Prius
- Toyota RAV4
- Toyota Highlander
- Honda Odyssey
