A handful of retailers have filed for bankruptcy protection since the coronavirus pandemic started.

In most cases, the companies are seeking to restructure their businesses to better position themselves to compete post-coronavirus, rather than to liquidate and fold. But reorganizing doesn’t guarantee long-term success, and the unprecedented nature of the ongoing pandemic leaves plenty of room for uncertainty.

As J.C. Penney CEO Jill Soltau put it in a recent announcement:

“The Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has created unprecedented challenges for our families, our loved ones, our communities, and our country. As a result, the American retail industry has experienced a profoundly different new reality …”

So, for the following retailers — all of which recently petitioned for bankruptcy protection or are owned by a parent company that did — it’s possible that their current Memorial Day sales could prove to be their last.

If you want to support these well-known brands — or simply snag a deal this Memorial Day — check out their sales.

1. Pier 1 Imports

Last week, Pier 1 Imports Inc. announced plans for “an orderly wind-down,” including store closures and asset liquidation. This week, the retailer’s Going Out Of Business Sale is already underway.

Currently, everything is up to 30% off as part of the liquidation sale, with all sales final in stores and online.

Additionally, all outdoor furniture is 40% off through Wednesday.

Other discounts we noticed on Pier 1’s site this morning, with no end date noted, include:

2. Bealls

This Florida-based retailer is owned by Stage Stores, which is also seeking “an orderly wind-down of operations” as part of liquidation plans.

You will find plenty of discounts on clothing at Bealls today. They include 50% to 60% off select swimwear for the whole family and 25% select items from Nike, Under Armour, Levi’s and Columbia. You’ll also save an extra 30% on clearance items.

3. J.C. Penney

Like all of the following retailers, J.C. Penney currently is seeking a reorganization rather than a liquidation.

While no one can predict how that process will pan out for the century-old retailer that was struggling even before the pandemic reached U.S. shores, one thing is clear so far: Seemingly everything is on sale at J.C. Penney today.

As part of the chain’s Memorial Day Home Sale, furniture and mattresses are up to 60% off, and kitchen and dining and bedding and bath items are up to 50% off.

You will also find discounts of as high as 60% on clothing, including:

You’ll even find deals at Sephora Inside J.C. Penney and deals on J.C. Penney salon hair products.

Plus, you can take an extra 30% off many items by using this coupon or entering coupon code DEAL4YOU online.

4. J. Crew

At J. Crew today, code HISUMMER will save you money on seemingly everything. That includes an extra 60% off select sale styles, and either 40% off or 60% off select full-price styles.

5. Neiman Marcus

Hundreds of new arrivals are up to 50% off as part of the Designer Sale.

For regular-price items, use code SUNNYDAY today to take $50 off a $200 purchase or $150 off a $500 purchase.

6. Last Call

At this chain, which is also part of Neiman Marcus Group Inc., you can save an extra 40% on just about everything today. For clearance items, you can save an extra 60% or 80%.

7. True Religion

During what this trendy apparel retailer is describing as “quite literally the sale of all sales,” you will save an extra 40% to 70% on everything.
