Margaritas, horchatas, tacos — if it’s associated with Mexico, it’s probably discounted at an eatery near you this weekend.

That’s because Saturday is Cinco de Mayo, a Mexican holiday whose name literally means “the fifth of May” in Spanish.

It started out as a celebration of Mexico’s defeat of France at the Battle of Puebla in 1862, during the Franco-Mexican War. But in the U.S., Cinco de Mayo has evolved into a broader celebration of Mexican culture.

That includes Mexican cuisine. So, at restaurants and grocery stores like the following chains, you’ll find deals on Mexican dishes and drinks — as well as pizza, in one case.

As always, call ahead to confirm that the locations in your area are participating in these promotions.

Following are eight food chains serving up Cinco de Mayo specials

The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf

The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf tells Money Talks News that its company-owned stores will sell horchata lattes for $1 from 2 p.m. to closing time Friday through Sunday.

The chain’s Horchata Latte is described as “a blend of warm cinnamon and sweet vanilla infused with rich espresso.” The Matcha Hotchata Latte is described as “Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf’s ceremonial grade matcha with our classic vanilla powder paired with the spicy warmth of horchata.”

Note that while Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf has 311 locations in 13 states, only the 192 company-owned stores are offering this deal. They are all located in Southern California and Arizona.

Hungry Howie’s

This restaurant wants you to “get a pizza the action this Cinco De Mayo,” the pizza chain tells MTN. It’s offering large one-topping pizzas for $5.55 apiece if you buy two now through Saturday. Just note this deal is only available for online carryout orders. Enter promo code CINCO18 when ordering online.

Hungry Howie’s has nearly 550 locations in the U.S.

Tijuana Flats

Tijuana Flats will sell $2 tacos and $2 Mexican beers Friday through Sunday. The Tex-Mex chain has some 100 locations across six states — and all are offering those discounts.

Additionally, some specific locations are hosting Cinco de Mayo fiestas. These events may involve games, live music or special menu items, for example — check Tijuana Flats’ blog for details.

Chuy’s and Margaritas Mexican Restaurant

Chuy’s and Margaritas Mexican Restaurant are also celebrating Cinco de Mayo, though different locations will offer different specials or festivities. Both chains recommend checking the Facebook page of the specific location nearest to you for details.

Bahama Breeze Island Grille and On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina

Bahama Breeze Island Grille (now through Saturday) and On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina (Saturday only) are both offering a $5 margarita.

Whole Foods Market

Whole Foods Market stores in the U.S. have put all Frontera Foods products on sale until May 15 — while supplies last. The Frontera Foods brand describes its products as inspired by regional Mexican cuisine.
