Get out your shopping list. And your wish list. Because you can land serious savings on just about anything you want to buy this week.

It’s Ebates’ “birthday week,” which this year means you can get an extra 15 percent cash back on purchases from more than 400 online retailers.

In many cases, that’s a greater percentage of money back than when Ebates offered triple cash back in February. And the 15 percent cash back is on top of any savings you rack up from shopping sales or paying with a cash-back credit card.

Just to name a few, the retailers and other merchants where you can currently earn 15 percent cash back include national names like:

  • Ace Hardware
  • Big Lots
  • FTD Flowers — where you’ll actually earn 30 percent cash back instead of 15 percent
  • JCPenney
  • KitchenAid
  • Michael Kors
  • ProFlowers — 30 percent cash back
  • Walgreens

Just note that not all participating retailers are offering 15 percent cash back all week long. So, check Ebates’ pages for the individual retailers you’re interested in.

To view the full list of some 400 participating retailers, visit Ebates’ home page and click on “See All 400+ Stores,” which is written in green next to where it says “Shop & Get 15% Cash Back Before It’s Gone.”

Using cash-back portals

Ebates is what’s known as a cash-back portal. That means that when you shop online by going through Ebates’ website — or its app or browser extension — you earn cash rebates. This free money is commonly called “cash back.”

To earn cash back, visit Ebates’ website and select the retailer where you want to shop. From there, you will be redirected to the retailer’s website. Alternatively, you can use the browser extension or mobile app.

Cash-back portals receive a commission from retailers for referring online shoppers to those retailers’ websites. Then, the portals share that commission with shoppers. So, your cash back is your share of that commission.

To get started with Ebates or any other cash-back portal, just sign up for an account. Signing up for and using Ebates is free.

Other cash-back portals that also are free include:

Even if you already have an Ebates account, you might want to check out other portals, as some portals are known to offer more cash back than others at a given retailer. I use both Ebates and TopCashback, as I detail in “3 Websites That Pay You for Shopping.”
