Google Shopping is getting a big makeover.
The shopping tool has been “rebuilt from the ground up with AI,” according to Google. The 45 billion product listings in Google’s Shopping Graph have been joined with Gemini artificial intelligence (AI) models to create a new, personalized experience.
Google is now rolling out the updated tool, a process that will continue in coming weeks.
Google says artificial intelligence is being used to help people find the products most relevant to them. The goal is to both simplify and speed up the search process.
In the Google blog “The Keyword,” Google imagines a shopper looking for a new winter jacket that will keep them both warm and dry from rain:
“Here’s how it works: A search for ‘Men’s winter jacket for Seattle’ will provide an AI brief with the most important things you should know before investing in a new coat for this climate. We’ll show products recommended by sources from across the web, and an explanation of why they’re a fit for your needs. You’ll also see categories that give you a more organized view of the types of jackets to consider. For those who want to research more deeply on the web, you can easily click through to relevant articles.”
The results will also be filtered by details such as size or places near you that sell such items. A virtual try-on feature is included.
The Google Shopping homepage now features a personalized feed that uses your preferences to offer you “shoppable” products and videos. As you browse, Google Shopping helps you with price comparison, price insight and price tracking information.
Finally, Google is encouraging shoppers to provide feedback about the overhauled service via a three-dot menu that can be found on AI-generated briefs.
