How Musk’s Own AI Spotlights Trouble for Tesla’s Future

Elon Musk’s own AI chatbot just signaled significant hurdles ahead for Tesla, raising questions for investors as the company’s Robotaxi launch nears.

According to Grok, Tesla’s “golden age” may be in the past, though opportunities remain for the automaker to stay competitive.

Grok’s candid assessment of Tesla’s future

Grok first highlighted Tesla’s major advantage in manufacturing and infrastructure.

This manufacturing edge, combined with Tesla’s ownership of its hardware, software, and charging network, gives the company a significant scaling advantage, according to TheStreet, especially as Waymo is expected to manufacture just 2,000 vehicles over the next year.

Despite these strengths, Grok observed turbulence in Tesla’s stock. According to the chatbot, Tesla’s shares dropped 4% on June 17 following a production halt at the company’s Austin Gigafactory and a period of increased negative attention.

Grok also flagged safety concerns that are drawing scrutiny from both regulators and the public.

After a Dawn Project demonstration in Austin highlighted a Model Y’s failure to stop for a child mannequin behind a school bus, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began investigating four Tesla crashes involving Full Self-Driving (FSD) software, including one that resulted in a pedestrian fatality.

Perhaps most telling, Grok cited a May 2025 Electric Vehicle Intelligence Report showing a deep lack of consumer trust in Tesla’s technology. 60% of survey participants described FSD as “unsafe,” 77% said they would not use it, and nearly half felt the system should be banned entirely.

Can you trust AI stock picks?

A key question emerges: does an AI’s opinion matter for your investing decisions?

AI chatbots, including Grok, excel at analyzing existing information quickly, but they struggle to predict unpredictable market events or irrational investor behavior.

As witnessed during the GameStop stock frenzy, markets are shaped by sentiment and surprises that AIs may not foresee.

Bias can creep in, too. Grok is a creation of Musk’s xAI, drawing conclusions from data curated by the company.

While Grok’s analysis of Tesla was unexpectedly frank, any AI may be influenced by the data it’s trained on, or the limits set by its creators. Relying solely on an algorithm is risky.

Red flags in AI-based investment advice

Investors may want to be skeptical of AI-generated financial guidance that offers ultra-specific stock predictions or deadlines. Since financial markets involve countless variables, precise forecasts are rarely reliable.

AI tools can also misinterpret facts or base results on incomplete data, especially if they don’t reveal their sources.

Another watchpoint is recency bias. AI often weighs recent trends too heavily and may miss turning points in longer-term market cycles. Without transparency, examining the reasoning and evidence behind the analysis may be a good idea.

How to use AI analysis responsibly

AI commentary might be a helpful resource when used thoughtfully. The insights can serve as part of the research process rather than the only guide.

AI summarizes earnings, surfaces industry trends, and combines multiple viewpoints. Even so, findings can benefit from further checking.

Some investors may refer to SEC filings, expert analyst reports, or trusted financial news to help validate any AI highlights.

If Grok mentions doubts about FSD or a stock drop linked to a specific event, some readers may want to review the original survey or news announcement for confirmation.

Ultimately, human judgment continues to play a crucial role. AI chatbots can’t assess whether a controversy truly affects business fundamentals or whether short-term headaches will weigh on Tesla’s long-term prospects.

What it means for investors

Grok’s take on Tesla is only one perspective — however well-publicized. AI-driven insights can be a starting point for deeper research, not a final answer.

Watching Tesla’s actual business results and staying informed about significant developments from regulators and competitors could be helpful.

These real-world factors affect personal finances more than any chatbot’s opinion. AI tools may be making financial analysis more accessible, but lasting outcomes are still driven by independent, careful judgment.
