Hyundai Recalls over 47K Vehicles. See Affected Models

Hyundai has recalled over 47,000 small SUVs due to a seat belt issue that could increase the risk of a crash and subsequent injuries to drivers.

The recall includes the 2025 Kona Electric and 2026 Kona vehicles, per a notice the company shared on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website. According to California-based Hyundai North America, the rear center seat belt buckle may not function properly.

“Reduced seat belt performance could increase the risk of injury to vehicle occupants in the event of a crash,” the company wrote in documents shared on the NHTSA’s website on Tuesday, July 14.

Hyundai said the issue affects the rear center seat belt buckles used in Kona vehicles. As of mid-July, there have been no confirmed incidents, crashes, fires or injuries due to the issue.

“Owners are advised to avoid using the rear center seating position until the recall remedy is complete,” Hyundai said.

How Many Vehicles Have Been Recalled?

Altogether, 47,749 vehicles have been recalled, including:

  • 2026 Hyundai Kona – 47,733 vehicles
  • 2025 Hyundai Kona Electric – 16 vehicles

What’s the Issue and Fix?

Hyundai said in the documents that the company sourced its rear center seat belt buckles from a Korean supplier, Joyson. Joyson informed Hyundai in February 2026 of a test failure involving a rear center seat belt buckle for the Hyundai Kona. The North America Safety Office then began investigating.

Joyson said the issue may have occurred due to “inadequate inspection controls” that led the company to use stamping dies, or tools used to cut metal sheet into specific shapes, beyond their lifespan. This led to wear on the stamping die from overuse.

“Although there have been no crashes or confirmed field incidents related to this condition, Hyundai decided to conduct a safety recall to repair all potentially affected vehicles in the US market out of an abundance of caution,” the company wrote.

The automaker said it will let all owners know via first-class mail when they can take their vehicles to a Hyundai dealer. Technicians will replace the rear center seat belt buckle assembly free of charge.

The company will also reimburse owners who paid out of pocket to have the buckle fixed.

The NHTSA’s number for the recall is 26V452, while Hyundai’s recall number is 306.

Hyundai Recalls Over 421K Vehicles. See Affected Models

A Hyundai recall could affect over 421,000 vehicles due to an issue in which the brakes may activate unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Software in the recalled vehicles’ front cameras could cause their forward collision avoidance system to “activate prematurely,” applying the brakes when the driver isn’t expecting it, according to a NHTSA safety recall report issued on May 19.

Between October 2024 and April 2026, Hyundai received 376 reports of the brakes activating unexpectedly. Four reports involve crashes in which vehicles were rear-ended by closely following traffic, resulting in four injuries. There have been no fatalities or confirmed fires attributed to the issue.

What Hyundai Vehicles Are Being Recalled?

The following vehicles are being recalled, according to the NHTSA:

  • 2025 to 2026 Hyundai Santa Cruz
  • 2025 to 2026 Hyundai Tucson
  • 2025 to 2026 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid
  • 2025 to 2026 Hyundai Tucson Plug-In Hybrid

A total of 421,078 vehicles are potentially affected by the recall.

What Should You Do If You Own a Recalled Vehicle?

Owners of recalled vehicles are expected to receive notification letters by July 17, according to NHTSA.

To remedy the issue, owners can take their recalled vehicles to a Hyundai dealer, where the front camera software will be updated free of charge.

Owners who believe their cars might be involved can also search for their vehicle identification numbers (VINs) or state and license plate numbers on NHTSA.gov to confirm whether their vehicles are included.

Hyundai Recalls over 94K Vehicles. See Affected Models

USA TODAY Network / Reuters

Hyundai is voluntarily recalling more than 94,000 Genesis and GV80 vehicles due to a possible fuel leak that could increase the risk of an engine fire.

According to a notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Hyundai Motor America found that the “crossover fuel pipe connecting the left and right fuel rails of the engines in the subject vehicles may have been installed with retention fasteners that may gradually loosen over time.”

The issue was first reported by two U.S. customers in July 2024, who said they noticed a fuel-like odor and visible leakage, NHTSA said.

The recall notice says the “retention fasteners were tightened with insufficient concentrations of torque stabilizer at the fuel rail connections during vehicle assembly, causing the retention (axial) force to diminish over time,” and increasing the risk of a leak.

Hyundai has received 129 reports “alleging the subject condition in the U.S. market.” The earliest report dates back to Oct. 29, 2021. U.S. customers haven’t reported any crashes, fires or injuries related to the defect.

Authorized dealers and affected customers will be notified of the safety recall on June 8.

Which Hyundai Models Are Affected by This Recall?

The total number of Hyundai vehicles “potentially” affected by this recall is 94,760. The affected models include:

  • 2023–2025 Genesis G90
  • 2021–2025 Genesis G80
  • 2021–2025 Genesis GV80
  • 2022–2026 Genesis GV70

According to the NHTSA, Genesis’ number for this recall is 033G and the agency’s number for the recall is 26V229.

What to Do With the Affected Vehicle

Impacted vehicle owners will receive a notice instructing them to bring their vehicle to a Genesis retailer, where technicians will inspect and retighten the crossover fuel pipe.

The crossover pipe, whether a fuel leak is found or not, will be tightened to specification. If a leak is found, the crossover pipe will be replaced and then tightened.

According to the NHTSA, the remedy will be offered at no cost to owners for all affected vehicles, regardless of whether the affected vehicles are still covered under Genesis’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty.

Hyundai Motor Company will also offer reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses incurred to obtain a remedy for the recall condition. Genesis customers can contact customer service by phone at (844)-340-9741.
