Mercedes-Benz USA is recalling more than 144,000 vehicles due to a defect with the instrument panel display that could increase the risk of a crash.

The recall affects certain 2024-2026 AMG GT, C-Class, E-Class, SL, CLE and GLC vehicles, a May 1 notice published on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website reads.

According to the notice, the infotainment control unit may reset while the vehicle is in motion, causing the instrument panel display to go blank.

When that occurs, the instrument panel display fails to show critical safety information, such as the speedometer and warning lights. The driver does not receive a warning beforehand.

“Numerous” warranty claims and field reports have been submitted in connection with the defect; however, Mercedes-Benz is not aware of any crashes, accidents or injuries relating to this issue.

Mercedes-Benz initiated a recall for more than 24,000 vehicles due to a malfunction with the propeller shaft that may cause the vehicle to lose power while in motion.

According to a notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a Mercedes-Benz customer outside the United States reported “losing propulsion without warning” in October 2025. Other customers reported hearing a noise or feeling a vibration before losing propulsion.

After several tests were conducted, the German automotive brand found that noise and vibration may not necessarily occur in every instance.

“Thus, on March 27, 2026, MBAG determined that a potential safety risk could not be ruled out and decided to conduct a recall,” the report states. “MBAG is currently aware of 30 warranty claims reports received from January 2022 to April 2025 in the US.”

Authorized Mercedes-Benz dealers were notified of the voluntary recall campaign on April 10, and affected customers will receive a notice before June 2.

What to Do With the Affected Vehicle

Impacted owners are advised to take their vehicle to an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer, who will check the drive shaft on the affected model and replace it, if necessary.
