Each year, free-food lovers mark March 14 on their gustatory calendar. That’s because this Thursday is Pi Day, when several restaurant chains offer deals or freebies on pie and pizza.

The made-up holiday falls on “3/14,” and is intended to honor “pi,” the mathematical constant that designates the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter and that is commonly rounded off to 3.14.

Typically, you’ll find “Pi Day” deals on pizza pies, pot pies and bakery pies.

The following restaurants are among those offering discounts and freebies this year. Just consider calling ahead to locations in your area to confirm they are participating in these offers before you leave home.

1. Bakers Square Restaurant & Pies

You can get $2 off any whole pie today and Thursday. Ask the cashier for the discount.

To add to the fun, all double-crust fruit pies will have the “pi” symbol baked into them.

Bakers Square has locations in six states:

  • Iowa
  • Illinois
  • Indiana
  • Minnesota
  • Ohio
  • Wisconsin

2. Blaze Pizza

You can get a pizza for $3.14 on Thursday. You must download the chain’s mobile app, however, to take advantage of this offer.

Blaze has locations across the country. All locations in the U.S. are participating in the Pi Day deal, with the exception of restaurants at Disney Springs (a shopping, dining and entertainment complex at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida), George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Los Angeles’ Staples Center, the UCLA campus and George-Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.

3. Bojangles’

You can get three sweet potato pies for $3.14 on Thursday. These are baked pastries filled with sweet potato puree.

The chain has locations in 12 states, mostly in the South.

4. Grand Traverse Pie Co.

All 15 locations — in Michigan and Indiana — will offer a free slice of Michigan ABC Crumb Pie with any purchase on Thursday.

5. Hungry Howie’s

Order any bread at the menu price, and you can get a medium one-topping pizza for $3.14 now through Thursday. The deal is available only for carry-out orders — use code 19PI.

Hungry Howie’s has locations in 22 states.

6. Marie Callender’s Restaurant & Bakery

Order one full-price adult entree, and you’ll get a free slice of pie on Thursday — with the coupon that’s available on Marie Callender’s website.

The chain has restaurants in three states:

  • California
  • Nevada
  • Utah

7. Urban Bricks

Every pizza is $3.14 on Thursday, though the offer is limited to one pizza per person.

Urban Bricks has locations in nine states.

8. Villa Italian Kitchen

Fill out the form on this chain’s website, and you’ll get a coupon good for a Whole Cheese Neapolitan Pie for $3.14 on Thursday.

Villa Italian Kitchen has restaurants across the country.
